Course Description

Project Sponsor Essentials, is any introductory course that enables project sponsors to effectively direct the work of project managers who are responsible for delivering your business results (projects) on time, on budget and within scope.  You will maximize your time in this course by having the option of working on components of your own project or a real life case study that is provided. This course will give you immediate returns on your learning investment by providing you with a detailed workbook and project templates.   You will gain an awareness of project management from ‘concept to cash’ or from the initial contemplation of a project to the realization of its benefits after successful implementation.

You will also gain an appreciation that to increase the likelihood of project success one needs to consider complimentary disciplines besides project management alone. You will learn about the criticality of portfolio, program, change management and their inherent relationship to project management.  In short, the Project Sponsor Fundamentals course is designed for people who want to maximize the time of their project manager and increase their return on investment.

Purpose

The Project Sponsor Essentials course will provide participants with a working level knowledge of project management as well as skills in using project management tools and templates.   During the course participants will gain knowledge on the following topics:

  • Basic concepts of a project management and project management myths
  • Common PM terminology and critical success factors
  • Understand what a Project Sponsor is
  • Understand Project Sponsor roles and responsibilities
  • Discuss the challenges to sustaining effective sponsorship
  • Provide tools to support your role as a successful project sponsor
  • Project Change Management (human due diligence)
  • Project Risk Management
  • Project Control
