This one day course on Project Change Management Fundamentals is directed to those who are responsible for managing projects, are members of a project team or find themselves as change agents for a change initiative. This is an entry level course for active project participants and has no pre-requisites.

Note: This course is about the human dynamics of change and you will explore the impacts and changes that projects have on human beings. This course is not about change control.

Course Length: One Day

Purpose

The Project Change Management Fundamentals module will provide participants with an understanding of project change management as well as skills in using project change tools and templates.   During the course participants will gain knowledge on the following topics:

  • Basic concepts of a change initiative
  • Common Change Management terminology
  • Change life cycles and frameworks
  • Project Change Planning
    • Critical success factors for successful project change outcomes
    • Examination of various change management methodologies
    • Examination of Neuroscience findings about change
    • Examine the impact of culture on change
    • Role of Change Agents

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Establish an integrated project change framework to complete the project
  • Assess the level of change impact
  • Assess the competency of the Change Agent
  • Develop an integrated project change plan
  • Develop a strategy to increase buy-in and reduce resistance
  • Conduct assessments to determine the likelihood of change success
  • Increase the sustainability and permanency of the change (the stickiness factor)
  • Application of an integrated change management methodology (CAPES)

Management Competencies Addressed

Participants will enhance their competencies in project risk, communication, human resource and change management.

Instructional Approach

This course is made up of short lectures, multiple exercises, case vignettes, video clips, videos and games.  You are guaranteed not to be bored.  You will undertake both individual exercises and team assignments. Participation in the games and debates is always voluntary.
