Managing with Influence and without Authority is a one day course directed to those who are responsible for managing projects within a matrix environment. This is an advanced topic course for active project participants and assumes knowledge of Project Management Fundamentals. This course is designed for a general audience.

Course Description

This course enables project team members to deliver successful projects by managing stakeholder involvement and expectations.   You will maximize your time in this course by having the option of working on components of your own project or on one of your team members from class room.

This course is made up of short lectures, multiple exercises, case vignettes, video clips, videos and games.  You are guaranteed not to be bored.

Purpose

This course provides participants with a deeper understanding of project management as well as skills to manage the people side of projects while working in matrix environments. The traditional intact work team is often not used for projects as teams are often drawn together from multiple functional areas. This leaves project managers or those leading such teams without many of the traditional managerial levers to get work done through other people. Therefore, different skills are required such as influence, persuasion and negotiations.  During the course participants will gain knowledge on the following topics:

  • Very brief review of project management fundamentals
  • Examination of 2 key Project Management Knowledge areas as identified in the Project Management Institute’s Body of Knowledge (5th edition):

Learning Outcomes
